Toscanini’s is tucked away from Canning Highway in Applecross (entrance on Moreau Mews). Although close to the highway there is little traffic noise probably helped by the soft music played. The cafe is open from 7am until 4pm everyday and they serve a range of hot food, deli counter meals and a selections of rolls and sandwiches. They also have a cake cabinet with a good selection of sweet choices. There is a small seating area inside and more seating outside. Toscanini’s is part table service, you need to order inside and pay then your meal is served to you at your table. It is obviously very popular with locals as we saw many people pop in to pick up a roll or salad for lunch.
I ordered the Red Pesto Pie ($7.90) made with a puff pastry shell filled with zucchini, eggplant and sweet potato and topped with a dollop of red pesto. It was served warm and quickly filled my grumbling tummy! I also ordered a rather ordinary Flat white ($3.80) which came with a shortbread biscuit but no arty design on top.
My hubby chose the Thai Chicken Patty ($7.90) which came with a small dipping pot of sweet chilli sauce. The patty was really tasty and had a spicy kick to it. He also ordered a Side Salad ($8.50), his choice of 2 salads. He admitted it was hard to pick the salads and finally settled on the Vegetarian Spinach Salad and Honey Roasted Nectarine with Feta and Chicken Salad. Although he said he couldn’t taste the honey roasted nectarine they were both very appetising. My only gripe was that his meal was served on a chipped plate!
Toscanini’s is well priced for a gourmet deli style lunch and they also provide catering for corporate or private functions. There is a lot of parking around the cafe but they are 2 hour ticketed parking bays.
