A friend of mine said she was rather keen to visit Cultural Tastes in Mount Hawthorn so we chose that as our catch up location. It is quite a quirky cafe that also sells books and gifts. There is an indoor and outdoor garden seating area (which had a few toys to keep young children occupied.) We chose to sit inside as it was still a little chilly outside in the garden. I liked the selection of cakes, slices and muffins and pleased to see a few gluten-free options.
I chose to have the Chocolate Coffee Brownie which was gluten-free. The texture was good. It was very rich and chocolately but I was finding it hard to taste the coffee, perhaps drinking coffee at the same time affected this. My Flat White Coffee was hot but not overly strong.
I ordered the Homemade Banana and Walnut Loaf for my son which came toasted and with butter. He quickly gobbled down one slice and then became more interested in his iPad so I tried the other half. It was full of walnuts and the banana kept the loaf moist and flavoursome.
My friend ordered the Lemon Mascarpone Slice and a Ginger, Apple and Orange Juice. She thoroughly enjoyed both and the juice was made fresh.
Cultural Tastes is open Tuesday to Sunday for breakfast, lunch and coffee. They also offer catering, sell gift vouchers and run cooking classes.
