A midweek birthday celebration for a friend and we’ve walked to her local Itz Amore restaurant. We didn’t make a booking and it’s packed when we arrive but a couple are about to leave and offer us their table. This neighbourhood restaurant is obviously popular with locals with its relaxed dining atmosphere.
Once seated we glance at the menu but I should admit that my friend frequents this restaurant rather regularly and she knows the menu almost inside out! Theres the expected wood fired pizzas and pastas on the menu, along with Italian mains such as Scallopine and Parmigana. The birthday girl requests we share one of the desserts so we all skip entrees.
First out is the birthday girls Del Mare with grilled calamari and prawns tumbling over a fresh salad. It’s served piping hot straight from the pan and is deceptively filling.
Next out is the Amore pizza smothered with roast pumpkin, pinenuts, caramelised onion, spinach, leek and boccocini. It had a great thin and crispy base and it was large enough to take some home for hubby.
Lastly the Penne con Broccoli was served. The bowl was piled high with penne pasta, chicken, broccoli, mushroom then lightly tossed in a cream sauce with fresh tomato. The chicken was tender with the vegetables and pasta cooked just right – no sogginess. It again was a generous serve and well enjoyed.
As requested we ended our night sharing a Dessert Calzone. It was enormous when it arrived and was filled with custard, banana, chocolate hazelnut (like Nutella), chopped nuts and chocolate sauce drizzled on top. Little individual bowls of icecream and chocolate sauce were also served on the side for all of us. This is definitely a dessert to order but you’ll need to share it with friends.
Itz Amore offers generous serves for its diners at great value too. Not to mention it’s BYO wine and there’s take away options available. Surely it’s popularity speaks for itself!
