The Cookie Barrrel is a wholesale supplier to many cafes and restaurants around Perth but also sells direct to the public. They sell a range of cakes, bicuits, slices, tartlets, muffins, pies, pasties and sausage rolls. There are even a few gluten free products available. The greatest convenience I found is that you can order until 12 noon the day before needed and for a small charge of $11 they may be able to deliver to you if you cannot pick it up.
I have used the Cookie Barrel for many special occasions over the past year and have always been satisfied with our choices. I have tried a range of their cakes, biscuits and tartlets and on this occasion we tried their Bacci cake and individual Lemon Meringue Tartlets.
The Bacci cake is impressively covered in chocolate ganache, hazelnuts and waves of shaved hazelnut chocolate. This one is definitely not for the faint-hearted!! A very rich moist chocolate cake with a middle inner stripe of thick chocolate and cream. However this thick filling made cutting the cake rather difficult at times making it crumble and fall apart. Even with a thin slice I was feeling rather full.
The Lemon Meringue Tarlets are very generous in size. The pastry is firm and perfectly holds the tangy lemon curd filling. The meringue swirled over the top is very marshmallowy in texture. The proporation of filling to meringue balance nicely giving a sweet but not sickly palate. Definitely my favourite!
