An impromptu lunch on a rainy day found us at the Globe Patisserie Coffee House, a favourite of our lovely neighbours. Once inside you seat yourself at an available table whether indoors or in the enclosed outdoor area on the street. We decided to sit in the outdoor area near the large windows so we could see out onto the street. The Globe is the kind of cafe where you feel comfortable visiting on your own and they have a good selection of magazines and newspapers to read whilst enjoying your meal or coffee.
Menus are on the table but you need to place your order at the counter. They serve breakfast from 7am until 3pm and have special dinner menus on Tuesday and Wednesday Nights where you will get a free glass of wine and small patisserie with your main meal order. There is also a kids menu and although licenced you can BYO wine. Today I chose the lunch special, Beef Pie and Salad (9.90). The beef pie was piping hot and full of chunky beef, carrot and mushroom and you could taste a hint of red wine in the thick gravy. My mum also chose the lunch special Chicken Pie and Salad ($9.90) which had chunky pieces of chicken in a creamy gravy and she really liked the pastry. Our salads had a good combination of ingredients and a slight drizzle of dressing. Both of us were rather full so we didn’t get to try any of the yummy looking cakes but we both agreed we definitely would on our next visit.
Our very kind neighbours visited Globe last week and purchased some of their homemade cakes for us to enjoy. (I’m not sure I have remembered the cake names correctly) The Triple Chocolate Cake (my favourite) was light, creamy and very chocolately. The Berry Cake was also light and delicate and my husband really enjoyed it. The Chocolate Eclair was filled with chocolate and cream and the pastry had the perfect texture. Maggie and Simon we look forward to your next visit to Globe!!
