My hubby and I were off to a show at the Heath Ledger Theatre in Northbridge and decided to try the Mechanics institute Bar which is very close by. The entrance is off the laneway next to the state library carpark – we didn’t know this nor did the another couple who were also looking for the entrance. At the top of the stairs it opens out into a narrow wooden deck with tables, benches and stools but it is the view of the city that really grabs your attention. Inside the bar, cocktails are being mixed and city workers are unwinding with a glass of wine. At he bar we order some food from Flipside Burgers (located downstairs) and look for somewhere to sit and chill before our show. Some girls very kindly let us share one end of the table with them and we sip our wines as we wait for our burgers to arrive.
I ordered the Classic Beef $10.50 with Cheese $1. It’s got all the usual suspects of beef, salad, tomato relish and mayo. I thought my burger patty was small for the bun size and slightly overcooked. I’ve never liked the core of lettuce and I ended up with a big piece of it on my burger which I was disappointed about.
My hubby ordered the Triple B $13.50 a combination of free range chicken breast, bacon, brie cheese, whole cranberry sauce, salad & mayo. The chicken was juicy and the bacon and brie flavours were strongly evident. He really enjoyed it and it was definitely the better choice of the two burgers.
We also order a serve of Regular Chips $4.80 with Aioli $1 which were to die for. Chunky chips with crispy outers and soft middles, sprinkled in salt – yum!
The Mechanics Institute Bar is open Tuesday to Sunday from Midday until late. Overall we really enjoyed our visit at the Mechanics Institute Bar and would definitely visit again for drinks.
