I’d been to Terrazza Cafe in Applecross for breakfast a few years ago but when our fridge was bare looking one Friday night we decided to head there again for dinner with my sister. Once we arrived it was obviously busy and staff were kept on their toes. After a short wait we were seated and given menus. As we discussed what we thought we might order we noticed how noisy it was inside. We also noted it was quite dimly lit in our part of the restaurant in the corner tower (hence the pics are not great). There was a lot of choice on the menu and there is even a kids menu, although we had to ask twice for it!
To start we shared some Garlic Bread ($7.90) which was nice, with crunchy crusts and soft garlic butter laden middles. Hungry hubby also ordered a Brushetta ($10.50) which was the same garlic bread covered in chopped tomatoes, onion and garlic.
For mains I ordered the Pepper Steak ($34.50), scotch fillet with fries and a peppercorn sauce. The steak was grizzly, tough and swimming in the apparently peppercorn sauce – you couldn’t eat it. Had we not waited so long for our mains to arrive I would have sent it back. So I ate all the chips in disappointment and picked at everyone elses meals.
My hubby ordered the Penne Gondola ($24.50), with chicken, sundried tomatoes, seeded mustard, spinach, in a white wine cream sauce. It was a large serve and although the pasta was tossed in some sauce, there was very little evidence of any in the bowl or in flavour.
My sister ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad ($19.90) with cos lettuce, bacon, anchovies, croutons, capers with house dressing and a parmesan crisp on top. This was the best made meal of the night. It was light and creamy without swimming in dressing. It had a decent amount of topping and flavour.
Our son had the Kids Fish and Chips ($10.90). He nibbled at some of the fish fingers but mostly ate the chips all dipped in the sauce of course!
We used our Entertainment Card to receive a 25% discount off our meals. The service overall was unsatisfactory and staff appeared somewhat disengaged with customers, merely working through the motions. Terrazza Cafe is open 7 days a week.
