Just off Regent Street you’ll find the pedestrianized Heddon Street, a quiet haven from the hustle and bustle of the crowds but also home to some great restaurants like Aubaine. This chic restaurant instantly attracts your eye with its French ‘sophisticated yet relaxed’ ambience.
When we first stumbled across Aubaine it was a beautiful sunny day and it looked picturesque bathing in the afternoon sunshine and we vowed to return and try it. However it was unfortunate on our visit that the weather Gods were not on our side to dine alfresco so we were offered a cosy booth inside to sit at. The cheery persona of staff made us feel welcome and their service was efficient. Fresh flowers adorned counters and each table accompanied with distressed Louis dining chairs. We noted it wasn’t busy when we arrived but quickly filled up during our visit.
We perused the menu and decided to order the Aubaine Basket £10. It included a glass of freshly squeezed juice, a tea or coffee and a basket of fresh artisan breads and croissant with butter and jams. We really liked how it was presented in a wire basket with the plate inside, reminiscent of a picnic basket full of goodies! The bread was amazing and we covered it in lashings of butter and jam. We enjoyed the jam flavours of Cherry, Pear and Walnut, Apricot and Almond and Fruits of the Forrest jams between us.
Once finished our waiter asked if we’d like to view the dessert platter but we were full. We had noticed it passing through the restaurant to other customers and it looked sublime. Definitely something for our next visit.
