It’s late afternoon and we’ve arrived at Stow in the Wold in the Cotswolds. After a wander through the town centre we’re feeling rather peckish and eye off the very cute Lucy’s Tearooms with pretty hanging baskets in full bloom and white wrought iron furniture out the front. It’s busy inside but a waitress smiles and welcomes us in. We sit in the rear courtyard with gravel floor, a stone feature wall behind flowering plants and the staff quickly take our afternoon tea order.
Sweet toothed hubby orders the Eton Mess £4.60 a tower of cream, meringue and fresh sweet strawberries. It’s rich and decadent and he like the crunchiness of the meringue against the soft cream.
My home-made Coffee and Walnut Cake instantly brings back memories and I wonder why I don’t eat this cake more often. The cake is light and the coffee cream is divine with walnut pieces scattered on top.
Lucy’s Tearooms is not to be missed for morning or afternoon tea and lunch. Their home-made menu wont disappoint and it’s family friendly too.
