This popular local cafe had me wanting to make a return visit before we’d even finished our meal. It’s corner location, (with pink flamingoes out front!), is bright and cosy and a pretty decked courtyard appeals with heaters and toys for younger guests.
With an all day breakfast menu, daily specials and a kids menu too there is something to appeal to all. Orders are taken at the main counter where you’ll find the menus too. I liked how the usual brekkie suspects had been jazzed up a notch, Gill St style, with simple fresh ingredients.
The Corn and Zucchini Fritters $17 appealed and although it is normally served with salmon staff had no problem to substitute it for bacon. With a perfectly poached egg precariously sitting atop the fritter stack and garnished with avocado and rocket, this dish is a real winner.
My mother, who dined with me, opted for the Open Chicken Pie $10, with crispy filo pastry and chunks of tender chicken inside with a garnish of fresh rocket.
Coffees at $4.20 were strong and continuously pumped out to diners and regular walkers passing by on their morning route.
Gill St Deli is a great go-to place and I can’t wait to visit again soon.
