The Country Road Cafe was today’s venue for a quick before work brekkie. We entered from the rear in the Wolf Lane precinct and stumbled into a busy hive of hungry workers getting their fill. Spread across two rooms at the rear of the clothing store we found a corner table and read through the straight forward menu noting gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options available. Everything was reasonably priced with the most topping at a $17.50 for a big breakfast. Our orders were taken at the counter and served to the table.
The Eggs on Toast $10.50 with a side of Bacon $4. The poached eggs sat upon turkish bread with the bacon with a fresh, crisp salad on the side. The eggs were cooked right and the bacon was crispy. The fresh turkish bread had a dense and chewy consistency although still soft and the salad was refreshing after the richness of the meal we loved the crispness of the capsicum.
The Scrambled Eggs on Toast $10.50, were served on turkish bread, again with a fresh side salad. The eggs were perfectly scrambled to a soft and creamy texture and didn’t make the turkish bread go soggy at all.
Coffees were served quickly despite the business of the cafe. Whilst the Flat White was lacking its usual art motif on top it had less texture than the Cappuccino and was smooth and silky to drink. The cappuccino was foamy and hot as expected.
We enjoyed our visit for breakfast but are very keen to return for lunch having spied the menu! It has a rotational daily menu for grilled turkish sandwiches and soup/dip/pasta/risotto/dish of the day. Theres also the ‘Part of the Furniture’ menu items such as roast sweet potato pie and a spinach, cheese and pine nut pie and 7 different salads to choose from. All prices range from $13 to $17 and sweet treats are also available including those not-so-guilty raw, dairy and sugar-free treats. Children are not forgotten either with 3 options and not a chicken nugget in sight – thank goodness! Pop in soon from 7:30 – 4pm Monday to Friday and 9:30 – 3pm Saturday.
