Matters of Taste Cooking School first began in 1997 and is today located in Bicton, south of Perth. They run cooking and technique classes as well as selling a variety of food and kitchenware. Their website has lots of information about their classes, an online cooking club with access to a lot of recipes ad videos (for a small charge), newsletters, gift vouchers and corporate event ideas. For many classes you can BYO and eat what you’ve made in class which can make a fun event to do with friends or even your partner. Watch their video here.
Today I was visiting for my first time and had signed up for their Italian Biscotti Class which is part of their Thursday Morning Baking Club. It’s $25 for the class and it includes a drink from Little Stove a few doors down. When I entered I noticed the shop at the front of the store and at the back of the shop behind glass sliding doors, there’s a fully-kitted out kitchen demonstration area. Seats were set up along large stainless steel tables for the class with water and the recipe. The laminated recipe was to keep and pens were provided so you could write notes on it as we went along. Today it was a small class of 11 women and as it was a small class we were invited to ask questions as we went along. The demonstration class was relaxed and informative with a good sense of humour thrown in. There was plenty of biscotti for everyone to try which tasty really yummy and I enjoyed it with my coffee. The staff were also very excited as they were celebrating 9 years today of being in the premises and all being on-site together. Overall I really enjoyed the class and got lots of ideas for making several versions of biscotti; although I haven’t had a go making it at home yet, I definitely intend to. I’ve already signed up for a Macaroon Class with my neighbour and have my eye on a few other classes too.
* Sorry I didn’t get the chance to take any pics but will try to at my next class.
