Taste Budds Cooking Studio

A group of friends and I went along to Taste Budds Cooking Studio one Saturday morning to learn how to cook and prepare a dinner party. Situated in East Perth the class was led by Sophie Budd who has worked in Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver’s restaurants in the UK. (You can read more about Sophie Budd here) We had chosen to take part in the Dinner Party class as the menu was appealing and we thought if would come in handy when we have guests over for dinner. This was our menu:

Lamb Rump with Salsa Verde and Potato Dauphinois

Cold Lemon Souffle with Shortbread and Citrus Sauce

On arrival we were offered coffees and given aprons to wear. Then each of the four groups were assigned a work station and we were ‘talked’ through the recipes we were about to cook. All the necessary ingredients were laid out for us to help ourselves to and the mis-matched kitchenware was on shelves for us to take as needed. In our group we worked together as a team – one would get the ingredients, one the utensils etc. In the end as time was of the essence, we shared out the recipes so we were all working on different dishes at one point. All the while Sophie moved between the groups helping and advising us as we went along. We really liked the way she encouraged us to use more fresh homegrown herbs and vegetables in our cooking at home too.

When all groups had finished cooking their dinner party meal, we all sat down together at a large table to eat and discuss our cooking experiences. The recipes were emailed to us after the class although I would have preferred to have them on the day to have made notes on them. Overall it was a great lot of fun, we learnt some new recipes which we could recreate at home and we didn’t have to do the dishes!
